Additionally, guests must be accompanied by a valid cardholder. Costco tested this system earlier this year by requiring members to scan their cards at machines placed near the store entrance. The self-checkout machines were also affected by this crackdown. Costco’s move aims to prevent non-members from receiving the same benefits and pricing as members. It comes after the company announced an increase in membership fees.
